Bookstub vs Bookmory: ticket stubs or a full reading journal

By · Updated · 2 min read

Bookmory is an iPhone reading tracker with a timer, calendar, statistics, loan tracking and a reading journal with notes, according to its App Store listing. Bookstub is lighter: a page log, saved lines and a ticket-style stub for each finished book. Bookstub is in development; this comparison is as of October 2026.

What is the main difference?

Bookmory describes itself as a reading log, journal, timer and goal app in one. Its listing covers print books, e-books and audiobooks, notes with underlining, highlighting and photo attachments, text extraction from photos, loan due dates and purchase statistics. Bookstub covers fewer jobs. It logs a page, keeps short lines and turns finished books into stubs.

Competitor facts were checked on October 10, 2026 against the US App Store listing. Apps change, so verify before you decide. Bookstub is made by the publisher of this site and is not on the App Store yet, so it has no rating and no listed price.

What does Bookmory do better?

It covers more ground for a person who journals. The listing describes a notes editor, OCR from photos, a Random Book Draw for choosing a read from the wishlist, collections and series, loans and purchases, a reading timer on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and detailed statistics by author, publisher, language, rating and tag. Re-reads can be logged separately. A premium tier adds sync across devices and more.

What does Bookstub do better?

It is quieter and more private. Books, logs and lines stay on the iPhone, encrypted, with no account. The streak is forgiving: one page counts, rest days are earned and spent automatically, and your longest streak stays on record. Stats and summaries arrive as printed shapes: a weekly ledger, a monthly stack and a year archive.

Every finished book prints a stub, and every saved line can become a card for Stories. Friends can read along through pacts shared by link.

How do privacy and data differ?

Bookmory lists iCloud backup and automatic sync across devices in its premium tier, plus app lock with a password and Face ID. Bookstub keeps data on the iPhone, encrypted with a key in the Keychain, and offers a backup file you export to Files or iCloud Drive. Looking up a book sends your search words to Google Books, or to Open Library if you pick it in Settings, and no covers are fetched. Read the privacy policy for the full list.

How do they handle a missed day?

Bookmory offers a daily streak or a weekly streak if every day feels like too much, per its listing. Bookstub keeps the daily streak but forgives it: every seven reading days earn a rest day, you can store three, and yesterday can be filed until noon. Reminders are local notifications, at most one a day, and never about being behind. The streaks and rest days page lists every rule.

Who should pick which?

  • Choose Bookmory if you want one app for journaling, loans, statistics and exports to Markdown or Excel.
  • Choose Bookstub if you want a small, calm log with saved lines and a keepsake for each book.
  • Both import CSV files, so moving a list between them is possible. Check the columns first.
