A reading streak that forgives a missed day
In Bookstub one page counts as a reading day. Every seven reading days earn a rest day, up to three at a time, and a missed day spends one on its own. Yesterday can be filed until noon, and a broken streak never erases your longest one.

What counts as a reading day?
A day counts if you log at least one page, finish a timed session of at least one minute, or tap Read, did not count pages. Any of the three is enough.
The goal behind that rule is simple. The smallest action that counts should be small enough to do on the worst day of the week, because that is the day the streak is for.
How do rest days work?
Every seven reading days earn one rest day. The bank holds three. When you miss a day, Bookstub spends a rest day to cover it and the streak continues. A short note says so the next morning, with the number left in the bank.
Rest days are earned only. Nobody can buy one, and nothing about the streak is sold.
Rest days appear in the calendar as a moon-bookmark outline. They are never shown in red, and no message tells you that you are behind.
The first rest day arrives on your seventh reading day, so a new reader is covered from the end of the first week.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Reading day | 1 page, 1 timed minute, or marked read |
| Rest day earned | Every 7 reading days |
| Bank limit | 3 rest days |
| Missed day | Uses a rest day automatically |
| Late filing | Log for yesterday until 12:00 |
| Broken streak | New streak starts at 1; longest stays on record |
What is late filing?
If yesterday is empty and it is before noon, the log sheet offers For yesterday. Until noon, yesterday is shown as open instead of missed, so you do not lose a rest day while you decide.
Late filing has a limit on purpose. It stops at noon so that the calendar settles each day.
What if the streak breaks?
The longest streak stays on the calendar screen, and the new one starts with the line New streak. Day 1 counts. There are no sad faces and no warning pushes about losing a streak.
It also helps to know what the streak will never do. It will not ask for a fee to repair itself, show a sad face, or count a day you did not read.
Which milestones show up?
At 7, 30, 100 and 365 reading days in a row, a milestone card appears that you can share. The calendar shows each day as read, rest day, filed late or empty, using shapes and not color only.
Milestones are marked with a quiet card. The app skips confetti and flame icons on purpose and uses a bookmark ribbon for the streak instead.
Can I turn the reminders off?
Yes. Reminders are local notifications you switch on, at the time you pick. There is at most one a day, it is skipped when you already logged, and the app never sends messages about being behind. The reasoning behind the design is in the guide to a streak that survives a missed day.
Where do I see my streak?
The streak box on the shelf opens a calendar for the month. Two black blocks show your current and longest streaks. Each day is one of four shapes: read, today, rest day, or filed late, and a legend sits underneath. A line below shows the rest days in the bank, such as 2 of 3, and a link opens the rules in plain words.
Because the streak is calculated from your logs every time, undoing a log or importing a library can never leave it in a broken state.
How does Bookstub compare with a strict streak?
A strict streak resets at midnight, so the first missed day erases everything. Bookstub treats a miss as something the system can absorb, up to the number of rest days you have earned. When the bank is empty and a day passes with no reading, the streak ends, and you keep the record of your longest run.
That makes the number honest, because every rest day was paid for by seven days of reading.
Frequently asked questions
How many pages do I need to read for the streak?
One. A single logged page, a timed minute, or the Read, did not count pages button keeps the day.
How many rest days can I store?
Up to three. You earn one for every seven reading days.
Can I buy a rest day or repair a streak?
No. Rest days and late filing are free, and streak repair is not for sale.
Does the streak follow my time zone?
Days follow your iPhone's local date, so the streak uses the date your device shows.
